Begin a relationship with Jesus

Here at Lakeside, it is our prayer that many will come to follow Jesus. We are thankful that you have taken the time to seek Him!

We are confident you will find Jesus to be everything you have been longing for. Following Jesus is not a one time decision. It is a lifelong relationship in which you continually learn more about Him and grow closer to Him. To help you take that first step, here are a few foundational truths.

Who Is Jesus?

The first step toward a relationship with Jesus is knowing who He is. The Bible describes Jesus in many powerful ways. Take time to read the verses connected to each name (We have Bibles for free if you need one).

  • The Son of God - John 1:29-34
  • The Savior of the World - 1 John 4:14
  • Our Friend  - John 15:13-15
  • Lord and Master - Philippians 2:9-11

Understanding who Jesus is helps us see that a relationship with Him begins with believing in who He is and what He has done for us.

What Has Jesus Done for Us?

In the beginning, God created everything, and it was good (Genesis 1). Humanity lived in perfect relationship with God and enjoyed all of creation with only one boundary: they were not to eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.

In Genesis 3, Satan (in the form of a serpent) tempted Eve. She ate the fruit and gave some to Adam, who also ate. Through this act of disobedience, sin entered the world. As a result, humanity was separated from a right relationship with God. Because we are all descendants of Adam and Eve, every person is born with a sin nature and separated from God.

The consequence of this separation is serious. If our sin is not dealt with before we die, we will spend eternity apart from God in Hell.

We needed a perfect, sinless person who would willingly die in our place to pay the penalty for our sin. That is exactly what Jesus did. He came to the earth He created, lived among us, and lived a perfect, sinless life. Because of His perfect life, He was able to die for our sins and rise from the dead three days later. This made the way for us to be restored to a right relationship with God.

How Do I Begin a Relationship with Jesus?

Romans 10:9-10 tells us:
If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.

Salvation begins a right relationship with Jesus. All that is required is to:

  1. Believe in who Jesus is
  2. Trust what He has done for you
  3. Confess your sins to Him
  4. Commit to following Him for the rest of your life
